Notable earthquake strikes Bárðarbunga caldera in Iceland

A notable earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck the southeastern region of the Bárðarbunga caldera shortly before 3 AM. This episode marks the first occurrence of an earthquake of this magnitude since June 30, according to data from the Icelandic Meteorological Office. Following the main tremor, several smaller aftershocks were recorded; however, no significant volcanic activity or unrest has been detected.

Earthquakes are a common phenomenon in the Bárðarbunga area, with fifteen quakes exceeding a magnitude of 3 recorded since the beginning of the year. The strongest quake among these, measuring 5.4, occurred on April 21.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office continues to monitor the situation closely as it remains vigilant towards any potential volcanic activity in the area.
