Man dies after suspected stabbing in Breiðholt

A man in his 30s has died after an assault in the Breiðholt neighbourhood overnight, mbl.is reported, citing a police statement.

Police were alerted shortly before 1.30am and went to an outdoor scene, where they found two men with serious injuries believed to have been caused by stab wounds. Both were taken to hospital. One was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, while the other remains in intensive care in stable condition.

Police launched a search for the attackers and arrested three men elsewhere in the neighbourhood soon afterwards. They remain in custody. All three are Icelandic, as are the two men who were attacked.

The investigation is at an early stage, and police said they would not provide further information for now.
