Grill fire sparks explosion fears in Breiðholt

A fire at a grill and gas cylinder behind a house in Vesturhólar, in Breiðholt, prompted an initial concern that an explosion had occurred, mbl.is reported. Fire crews across the capital region were called out on Saturday.

When the first ambulance arrived, paramedics found the fire had spread from the grill and gas cylinder to nearby woodwork. They used fire extinguishers to put it out in less than four minutes.

Sigurjón Hendriksson, a fire service watch manager, urged people to clean their grills regularly. He said accumulated grease can catch fire and cause a large blaze.
