The Blue Lagoon has approved a share option plan for all permanently employed staff as it moves towards a public share offering and a listing on Nasdaq Iceland’s Main Market, mbl.is reported.
The plan was approved at a shareholders’ meeting on Friday, alongside a formal decision to launch the share offering and seek admission of the company’s shares to trading. Hildur Þórisdóttir, the Blue Lagoon’s human resources manager, said the plan aims to retain and attract outstanding employees.
“We know who creates the customer experience: the people who welcome guests, develop our products and look after the area,” Hildur told mbl.is. “That is why we felt it was right for all permanently employed staff to be able to take part.”
Hildur said the company’s culture is marked by warmth, empathy and loyalty, and that many employees have been with the company for a long time. As the business grows and its operations become more diverse, she said, preserving that culture is important. The share option plan is intended to support the company through that process.
She said it was not possible to predict how many employees would take part, but called it positive to give staff the opportunity to share in the company’s success.
