Electricity production by power producer Sev increased by just over 4% from January 1 to September 30 compared with the same period last year, KVF reports.
Oil-fired power plants supplied 47% of the electricity, wind power 31% and hydropower 20%. Biogas, solar and tidal power together accounted for 2%, Sev said.
A good summer meant there was little hydropower and wind power. In September, however, renewable sources supplied just over 74% of the electricity.
Solar power has grown substantially and now represents the equivalent of 130 tonnes of oil. There are currently 134 solar power installations in the Faroe Islands.
