More than 4,000 people will take part in a series of exercises lasting just under three weeks at the Rovajärvi military training area, Yle reports. Led by the Army Academy, the drills are intended to develop the coordinated use of fire.

The series begins with Northern Spike, where anti-tank missile platoons made up of conscripts will train for their duties in exceptional circumstances.

Just over a week later, the multinational artillery exercise Lightning Strike will begin. Participants will practise directing fire and using artillery systems. Allied forces from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Latvia and the Netherlands will take part.
