Kópavogur does not plan to make cuts, Mayor Ásdís Kristjánsdóttir told mbl.is, as the municipality works on its budget.
“We are always looking at how we can streamline operations and make better use of taxpayers’ money. We are considering options, but at present we are not making cuts,” Ásdís said.
She said Kópavogur’s operations were sustainable, which meant the municipality did not expect to need cuts. Her comments came as Hafnarfjörður announced that 26 jobs would be eliminated in response to a significant deterioration in its financial position. Reykjavík City laid off 50 employees on Tuesday as part of a wider reduction in staff positions.
Ásdís said Kópavogur was now preparing its budget and would continue to review how it could improve operations, set different priorities and enhance services.
