The Faroe Islands, Greenland and Denmark will jointly take over the presidency of the Nordic Council at the turn of the year, the first time the three countries in the Danish Realm have held it together, KVF reports, citing the Danish Parliament.

Lars-Christian Brask, a Danish MP for Liberal Alliance and chair of Denmark’s delegation to the council, will become its president. Sunnvá Dahl Høgfeldt, who represents the Faroese Parliament alongside Bjørg Brynhildardóttir Egholm, has been elected vice-president.

Høgfeldt took the chair at a meeting in Helsinki on Thursday, where the outgoing and incoming presidencies divided responsibilities. Finland holds the presidency this year and will hand it over at the turn of the year.

The Faroe Islands will also hold the presidency of the Nordic Council’s youth council next year. Jóhannis Erlendsson will chair it.
