MP’s son charged over father’s death

The son of Icelandic MP Lilja Rafney Magnúsdóttir has been charged in connection with the death of his father, Hilmar Oddur Gunnarsson, mbl.is reports. A prosecutor with the District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the charge to mbl.is; Vísir first reported it.

The son, who is in his 50s, was arrested two days after his father died at home in Kópavogur on July 26, aged 72. He was suspected of causing his father’s death.

The case will be heard at Reykjanes District Court. The family has asked for privacy as they mourn Hilmar.
