Son of Icelandic MP charged over father’s death

The son of People’s Party MP Lilja Rafney Magnúsdóttir has been charged in connection with the death of his father, Hilmar Oddur Gunnarsson, mbl.is reports.

Sigurður Ólafsson, a prosecutor with the District Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed the charge to mbl.is. Vísir first reported it. The son is in his 40s.

Hilmar died at his home in Kópavogur on July 26, aged 72. His son was arrested two days later on suspicion of causing his father’s death.

The case will be heard at the District Court of Reykjanes.
