Faroese Meteorological Office is working to develop a shared, colour-coded weather warning system, following similar efforts in other European countries, KVF reports.
The office is recording weather conditions in different parts of the Faroe Islands under different wind directions. Hanus Kjølbro is travelling around the country and speaking with people about wind, gusts and other weather phenomena to build as complete a picture as possible.
Director Bárður A. Niclasen supports introducing a shared system like Iceland’s. The system is expected to cover visibility, including blowing snow, as well as wave heights in fjords and sounds used by boats and ships.
