The average price of mackerel landed in Norway this year is 12 Norwegian kroner, while the average price in the Faroe Islands stands at 7 kroner.
“It’s still too early to compare Norwegian and Faroese prices for landed mackerel,” comments Fríðin Ziskason, managing director of Pelagos in Fuglafjørður.
Last year, the average selling price for mackerel in the Faroe Islands was 6.67 kroner, compared to just over 7 kroner in 2022 and the same amount in 2021.
The price of mackerel was particularly low last year because nearly all fish was directly processed at Havsbrún for meal and oil.
In Norway, there is a minimum price of 16 Norwegian kroner for mackerel intended for human consumption, which is equivalent to 10 Danish kroner.
