Hunters shoot deer trapped with handbag around its neck

Hunters shot a roe deer on Tuesday after it was found with a pink bag wrapped around its neck on Järsö, south of Mariehamn in Åland, Yle reports.

The bag may have become caught when the deer tried to eat apples stored inside it. Its handles were wrapped around the animal’s neck, and it could not free itself, Jan-Erik Sommarström told Ålands Radio and TV.

The deer was spotted last week and had visited several gardens. Göran Nyman and Viveka Holmberg first saw it on their property in mid-October. Yle said Ålandstidningen first reported the case.
