Temporary roads have been built near Nauthólsveg to maintain access to the University of Reykjavik and Reykjavik Airport during construction of the Borgarlína transit project, mbl.is reports.
Plans for the work near Nauthólsveg and the university have changed, and construction on Menntasveigur has been brought forward. The street will be temporarily closed to traffic, but access to the university will remain unchanged.
Soil replacement and temporary road construction have been under way in recent weeks. A temporary road has also been paved across the Nauthóll farmstead site, west of the university. At the end of October, the Strætó bus stop by the university is due to move to the bus bays by the roundabout near the entrance.
Work to build infrastructure for Borgarlína in the area began in early September and is scheduled for completion in July 2028. Grafa og Grjót and Malbikunarstöðin Höfði are carrying out the work. Their bid of 2.27 billion Icelandic krónur, including VAT, was the lowest.
The work near Nauthólsveg and the university is linked to the Fossvogur Bridge, which is under construction and is expected to open in summer 2028.
