Ljósleiðarinn, Orkuveitan, reykjavik

Shareholders of Ljósleiðarinn have approved authorising measures that could change the company’s ownership, mbl.is reported. The decision was made at a meeting on Monday and is subject to approval by the owners of Orkuveitan, which owns Ljósleiðarinn in full.

Reykjavík Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir told Morgunblaðið she was enthusiastic about the process being started by Orkuveitan.

“We have long emphasised that Ljósleiðarinn should be sold, as it is not part of Orkuveitan’s core operations,” she said. “We believe there is considerable value there that could be put to better use for the benefit of city residents, for example by paying down debt or undertaking important infrastructure investments. We are therefore excited that Orkuveitan is beginning this process.”
