Tórshavn is still looking for a location for a new national theatre, nearly two years after the city council voted to move the project away from Bursatanga, KVF reports.
Mayor Elsa Berg said work on the location is continuing. The municipality remains keen to host the theatre, she said, but has not yet found a final site.
Berg said the goal is to find a well-founded location with broad support that will not be changed again. The old dairy building, which has housed the national stage since 2004, is currently being renovated.
Plans for a new national theatre have been under development for several years. In March 2021, a jury chose Bursatanga as the location. The following September, MAP Architects won a competition to design the building. On 12 December 2024, Tórshavn City Council voted to find another location.
