Gusty winds to sweep across Finland through early week

Monday 26th October 2026 on 04:45 in Finland

Finland, weather, wind

Gusty winds are expected across Finland through the start of the week, but no serious wind damage is forecast, Yle meteorologist Laura Tuomola says.

On Monday, gusts may reach 15 metres per second in parts of southern and western Finland, with winds coming from the south to southeast. Rain is expected in the east, Lapland and west. A narrower, drier strip will run from Helsinki through Central Finland to Oulu.

Temperatures will be between 6 and 11 degrees in most of the country. Northern Lapland will be cooler, but temperatures there will remain above zero.

On Tuesday, winds will turn to the south and southwest, and rain will become less widespread. Gusts will exceed 10 metres per second from the south to South Lapland, and may just reach 15 metres per second on the west coast. Gusts of 15 to 20 metres per second are still possible at sea and along the coasts.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy but dry in much of the country. Lapland is expected to get drizzle, while scattered showers are possible near the eastern border and in Ostrobothnia. Temperatures will remain much as they are on Monday.

From November, the wind-warning threshold rises to 20 metres per second for the winter.
