Iceland’s annual garden bird survey opens to all

Iceland’s annual garden bird survey begins today and runs until April 24, 2027, mbl.is reports.

Fuglavernd, a bird conservation group, has run the survey since 1994. It asks people to observe birds in their immediate surroundings, usually their home gardens but also public parks.

The survey aims to gather information about the species and numbers of birds that spend the winter in Icelandic gardens. Fuglavernd encourages bird enthusiasts to take part, saying that broader participation makes the results more reliable.

Participants can put out food for birds in their gardens and count the species and numbers they see as often as possible, whether daily or weekly. Information, including advice on feeding birds, is available at fuglavernd.is.
