A new working group will examine how substance-use treatment should be organised in the Faroe Islands, KVF reports. The group is due to deliver recommendations by July next year.

Health Minister Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen announced the group in Parliament on Thursday, during a debate on the state of substance-use treatment. The issue was raised by MP Magni Højgaard of the Union Party.

Several MPs called for the work to move faster. Eirikur í Jákupsstovu of the Republic party and Højgaard were among those who raised the issue. Bjarni Kárason Petersen of the Progress Party questioned what had happened to a comprehensive plan adopted in 2022.

The plan contains 58 recommendations to prevent and curb substance abuse in the Faroe Islands. Its existence prompted questions about why another working group is needed.
