Finnish mixed martial artist Makwan Amirkhani goes on trial on Monday, accused of coercing musician Mira Luoti into a sexual act, Yle reports. Amirkhani denies the charge. The case will be heard at the Western Uusimaa District Court.

The allegation came to light when Luoti spoke about sexual violence in a Yle documentary about her former band, PMMP. She did not identify the television programme or the person involved. Media reports later said the programme was Julkkisselviytyjät, in which Luoti and Amirkhani competed as a pair in 2017. Amirkhani later said on social media that he was suspected of coercion into a sexual act and denied guilt.

Two other women filed police reports about Amirkhani after the allegation involving Luoti became public. One report concerned alleged rape and the other alleged attempted rape. Police closed one case and did not begin a preliminary investigation in the other because the time limit for prosecuting the alleged offences had expired. Amirkhani has not been charged with or convicted of those alleged acts and is not a suspect in either case.

One woman told Yle that Amirkhani tried to force her to perform oral sex during a car ride in the early 2000s. She said she resisted and told him she did not want to, after which he grabbed her wrist forcefully and masturbated using her hand. She reported the matter as attempted rape. Yle has seen a police document confirming that the preliminary investigation was ended, but said it could not verify her account through other sources. Amirkhani has not commented on the allegation to Yle.

The second woman filed a police report in August 2025, reporting alleged rape. She told Yle the incident happened more than 10 years ago and that she wanted to act so no one else would face a similar situation. Police confirmed that a report had been made and that the alleged offence took place at the time she described, but did not disclose the offence classification. Yle said it could not verify her account through other sources. Amirkhani has not commented on it to the broadcaster.

Yle said it had been unable to reach Amirkhani for comment despite repeated attempts. The broadcaster contacted his legal assistant, Kari Uoti, and asked him to pass on an interview request.

Amirkhani has previously discussed a separate rape case in which he, a cousin and a friend were charged over events in Vaasa when he was underage. The district court dismissed the charges. The two recent police reports do not concern that case.
