Finnish Parliament Speaker Jussi Halla-Aho said publishing unverified information about suspected intrusions into MPs’ homes serves no one, Yle reported.
Speaking on Yle’s Ykkösaamu programme, Halla-Aho said Parliament could not comment publicly because responsibility for releasing information rests with the police, who are investigating the incidents. He said information would be made public when it had been confirmed.
MTV News reported that Parliament held its third meeting on Thursday about the suspected intrusions. Halla-Aho said there had been behind-the-scenes discussion about whether they could be part of systematic activity by a foreign power.
Regardless of who was behind the incidents, Halla-Aho said, the intrusions were intended to strike at a free democratic climate. He added that Europe might still be too naive about the situation it faces because of Russia’s growing aggression and hostility.
