Trains crossing the railway bridge over the Limfjord in Aalborg are restricted to 10 km/h after cracks were found in critical steel joints, DR reports. Passengers travelling from Aalborg and further north should expect delays for at least another 14 days, Banedanmark said.
The cracks were discovered during a scheduled inspection of the bridge, which dates from 1938. Two have been found at critical points in the structure, said Mette Ask Hansen, Banedanmark’s section manager for operations and maintenance.
The joints will be examined more closely and the damage repaired. All the bridge’s joints are to be X-rayed, and the work will take place at night to avoid disrupting train services. Banedanmark is also inspecting the rest of the bridge.
Trains have been limited to 10 km/h across the bridge since Thursday. North Jutland Transport Company expects the timetable to remain in place, but says the reduced speed will cause delays ranging from a few minutes to 15 minutes.
