Reykjavík’s winter road service has begun salting streets, with the main routes treated overnight, mbl.is reported.

Eiður Fannar Erlendsson, head of the city’s winter services, said salting began on Thursday evening. After precipitation fell, crews went out again overnight to treat the main roads.

Ice may remain on residential streets and other less-travelled roads because the work has focused mainly on the main routes. Contractors and inspectors are now on duty, and further measures will be taken as needed.
