Hiddenfjord’s land station at Gomlurætt burned to the ground overnight, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports. Employees of the fish farming company spotted the fire and immediately alerted police. Firefighters arrived quickly, but the blaze was too large to save the station.

Hiddenfjord will have to build a replacement and hopes it will be ready when fish are put into the pens at New Year.

The company farms fish in pens off Velbastaður. The current harvest began two months ago and is due to finish on Monday. About 4,000 tonnes are harvested from the pens each cycle.
