crime, Iceland, police investigation

Two Polish citizens remain in custody as police investigate the killing of a Polish man on Kársnes in August, mbl.is reported. Their detention has been extended until November 3.

The investigation is extensive and complex, partly because it reaches beyond Iceland, said Ævar Pálmi Pálmason, assistant superintendent in the police investigation department. Suspects were arrested in Poland and Spain, slowing the investigation, he said.

Police are awaiting results from examinations of seized items and other evidence, including biological samples. Ævar said he hoped the results would arrive in the coming days.

Three men have been held in connection with the case, including one Icelandic citizen. The two still in custody are both Polish citizens. One has lived in Iceland for some time; the other has no known ties to the country, Ævar said.
