Police suspect woman of setting fatal Jyväskylä apartment fire

Police suspect that a woman in her 30s deliberately started a fatal apartment building fire in Jyväskylä, Yle reports. The fire broke out on Hämeenkatu on Tuesday evening.

Central Finland Police are investigating the case as aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated death. The woman, who lived in the apartment building, is suspected of starting the fire.

A man in his 30s who lived in the building died in the fire. Police believe he fled into the stairwell and died as a result of the blaze.

Police have opened a preliminary investigation and are continuing to establish the cause of the fire and the suspected motive. Investigators will interview those involved and conduct technical examinations. Rescue services contained the fire to one apartment.
