A bill to abolish the national pharmacist post has been submitted to the Faroese parliament by the Ministry of Health, KVF reports.
The proposal would separate the responsibilities of Apoteksverkið, the pharmacy service, and Heilsustýrið, the health authority. The pharmacy service would handle operations, while the health authority would be responsible for oversight.
The national pharmacist currently administers laws on the pharmacy service and medicines and monitors compliance. The post requires a master’s-level qualification in pharmacy, but the ministry says that requirement could be removed. The pharmacy service’s new director, who would replace the national pharmacist, could seek advice from pharmacists.
