Collectible cards tied to this year’s Christmas calendars on DR and TV 2 are dividing parents over the pressure and extra shopping they could bring, DR reports.

Children can collect cards and use an accompanying album for both broadcasters’ calendars this December. TV 2 cards will be available through shops belonging to the Salling Group, including Føtex, Bilka and BR. DR cards will be handed out at Coop stores, including Kvickly and 365discount, from 30 October.

Maja Larsen, from Odense, says the need to shop at two different retailers could add stress. Her children are not yet old enough to collect the cards, but she worries that the activity can create pressure and encourage more consumption. She also says children can feel left out when they do not have the cards their classmates have.

Christina Ranch, also from Odense, plans to let her children collect cards for both calendars. She says the family will divide the collecting between the children and avoid having duplicates. Shopping at several stores could be a challenge, she says, but she sees the activity as enjoyable for children.

Camilla Bjerner Ingvardsen, from Saltum, says her family will collect cards for just one calendar. Although her two children would each like a different set, the family will follow one choice rather than fill two albums.

In Svendborg, Tina Enequist Christensen says collectible cards give children something to enjoy and can draw them away from screens. She believes parents who feel pressured to shop at a particular store should use their judgement and set boundaries.

Martin Jørgensen, also from Saltum, agrees that parents should decide which cards to collect if choosing between the two becomes a dilemma. He says his seven-year-old daughter will be told that it is not always possible to have everything.
