Älvsjö murder suspects were reported missing on day of killing
Two teenage boys suspected of killing a woman in Älvsjö were reported missing on the day of the shooting, SVT reports. Prosecutors are seeking their detention on suspicion of murder and a serious weapons offence.
The boys, aged 16 and 17, are from the Gothenburg area and have no known gang ties. They were arrested shortly after a woman in her 20s was shot dead at Kämpetorpshallarna, a sports facility in southern Stockholm, shortly after 9pm on Friday. Both have denied the allegations.
The boys had previously been suspected together in a vandalism investigation involving an incident at a school. A person familiar with the case described it as a prank, saying: “I got the impression they were two ordinary schoolboys who wanted to play a trick, not the kind who cause trouble.”
“They are suspected of carrying out the murder together,” senior prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand said. Detention hearings for the two boys are scheduled for Tuesday.
Hundreds of young people were inside the sports facility when the shooting happened. The woman was shot on the upper floor, where fewer people were said to be. She later died in hospital.
The motive remains unclear. Police are investigating whether the killing may have been an act of revenge. A relative of the woman was sentenced to prison in 2023 for several offences and was also charged with murder and attempted murder, but was later acquitted.
