Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer called the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old youth worker in Älvsjö “very, very disturbing”, SVT reported. The woman was shot at a sports facility on Friday, prompting concern among people in the area.
The woman worked with young people in the municipality’s youth activities and was shot on the upper floor of the facility. Hundreds of young people were at a nearby sports hall for football and floorball matches at the time.
Strömmer said it was especially serious that violence of this kind took place in a public setting where people, including children, were present. The motive remains unclear. Two minors apprehended on suspicion of murder deny the crime.
SVT reported that police are considering revenge as a possible motive, as a close relative of the woman had been named on a so-called “death list”. Strömmer said it was too early to assess what the case meant or whether it could lead to further violence.
He said efforts to reassure residents should involve a visible presence and cooperation between police, the municipality and civil society. “Society must step forward together in a situation like this,” he said.
