Kraftbílar employee dies in highland jeep accident
An Icelandic man died in a jeep accident on the Gæsavatnaleið route north of Vatnajökull on Friday evening while on a staff trip with Kraftbílar, a company in Akureyri, mbl.is reports.
The accident happened as a group of 10 people tried to free a jeep that had become stuck. Kristján B. Jónsson, the company’s managing director, told mbl.is the man had been “everything to everyone and the heart of the company”.
A trauma response team came to the company to support staff, Jónsson said. He asked that the company and its employees be shown patience and understanding as they grieve.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Kraftbílar said the loss had left a huge void in the hearts of the company and its staff. The company said it would take time to find strength again, and asked for patience as employees and their families worked through their grief.
Rescue workers took the man’s companions to Akureyri, where the Red Cross provided trauma support.
