Autumn break weather across Finland will be milder and drier than usual, with temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, Yle reports. In North Lapland, temperatures could reach 10 degrees, unusually high for this time of year.
The week will begin dry and sunny in many places, according to Yle meteorologist Aleksander Lohtander. Rain is expected to become more likely toward the end of the week, but no snow is forecast.
Winds will strengthen in the north on Monday and could reach 20 metres per second in North Lapland. Fog is expected to increase in eastern and southern Finland on Tuesday, though the forecast remains uncertain.
Autumn school holidays are concentrated in southeastern Finland next week, including Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli and Lappeenranta. Schools in Oulu also begin their break on Monday, while pupils elsewhere return to school.
Temperatures will fall to around 2 or 3 degrees in the mornings and evenings. Lohtander recommends bringing a hat and gloves despite the generally mild forecast.
