A cleaner was accidentally trapped in a basement cell in a former Eastern High Court building in Copenhagen for three days before she was found and taken to hospital, DR reported.

The cell door shut behind her on the evening of Wednesday, September 16. She had no phone with her, and the doors could not be opened from the inside.

The buildings on Bredgade are used occasionally by Copenhagen City Court, but are otherwise empty, Ekstra Bladet reported. The Eastern High Court moved to a newly built building in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn district in February 2022.

The woman’s husband returned home on Saturday and began looking for her. He spotted her bicycle outside the former court building and alerted police, who found her inside.

Copenhagen City Court press judge Jens Stausbøll and the woman’s employer, cleaning company Coor, confirmed the incident. She was offered crisis support and has since returned to work.
