Police deliberately struck a tractor quad carrying two 16-year-olds to stop a pursuit in Mynämäki, Southwest Finland, on Saturday, Yle reported. The driver is suspected of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.
Police said they spotted the cabbed vehicle on Keskuskatu at about 7pm, travelling without lights or a registration plate. It was moving at 64 kilometres per hour in a 30 km/h zone.
The driver accelerated away from police and repeatedly drove in the oncoming lane and on a path for pedestrians and cyclists. Officers caught up with the quad at a gravel pit beside Vanha Turuntie and intentionally drove into it. The vehicle swerved and stopped.
The passenger was not injured. The driver’s injuries did not require hospital treatment, according to the preliminary assessment by emergency medical services. Police have contacted the guardians of both teenagers.
