A pregnant woman in Iceland says uncertainty over treatment for her unborn son, who has clubfoot, has taken some of the joy out of her pregnancy, mbl.is reports.
Karen Sif Sigurðardóttir is expecting a boy with clubfeet in December. She says she has spent 10 weeks trying to get information about his planned treatment, without success.
Several mothers of children born with clubfeet say care for the condition in Iceland is inadequate. The only specialist who has treated the children is about to go on leave, and no treatment plan has been confirmed. The children will most likely be sent abroad for care.
Some parents who have taken their children abroad for treatment have had to pay the costs themselves, in some cases more than 10 million krónur.
