People who earn high wages at pelagic processing plants during parts of the year should not receive payments from the fish-processing scheme when work is scarce, Margit Stóra, the minister responsible for social affairs, says. KVF reported that she will ask the ALS board to change the scheme.

The scheme covers three groups: the aquaculture industry, pelagic processing plants and fish-processing plants. Stóra says eligibility rules may need to distinguish between industries that can organise work more evenly throughout the year and those that cannot.

Stóra discussed the issue on KVF’s Breddin programme on Friday morning.
