People who misuse substances need a dedicated detoxification service, Martin Kúrberg told KVF. He heads Herbergið and the Frælsi treatment centre.

At present, people can undergo detoxification either in the medical department or on a psychiatric ward within the hospital system. The substance involved determines which option is considered most suitable.

Kúrberg said the current arrangement is inadequate and called for a better service from the healthcare system. He discussed the issue on KVF’s Breddin programme.
