A police officer who worked in the Helsinki Police Department’s human trafficking investigation team is suspected of rape, sexual assault, abuse of official position and human trafficking. Yle reports that the investigation has been completed and the case has been referred to prosecutors to consider charges.
The alleged offences took place between March 2024 and July 2025 and involve one complainant. They are suspected to have occurred at the department’s police detention facility while the complainant was being held in connection with criminal suspicions.
The officer has denied the sexual offences and human trafficking allegations but admitted to offences relating to his official position.
Yle first reported the suspicions in October 2025. According to the earlier report, the officer was involved in an investigation that began in spring 2024 and interviewed the woman several times.
National Bureau of Investigation investigators arrested the officer at the Helsinki Police Department in August 2025 and searched the department and his home, Yle reported. He was detained for a few days. The department dismissed him in September 2025, saying he was unsuitable to continue in his role.
