Vantaa plans to lay off 122 employees, while dozens more could face changes to their employment terms, Yle reports.

The city’s nearly eight-week co-operation negotiations ended last week. In addition to the planned layoffs, 81 employees would be offered new roles as an alternative to dismissal. Changes to employment terms could affect 44 people, while 15 fixed-term positions will end when their contracts expire.

The city would also abolish 21 vacant posts through natural staff turnover. A possible transfer of business could reduce staff by a further four, but that would require separate consideration and a decision. Twenty of the planned reductions would affect director, manager and supervisory roles.

Vantaa said it had sought to minimise the impact on services for residents. The city dropped plans for temporary layoffs because they would not deliver lasting savings. The figures may be refined as the changes are implemented.

The city board is due to consider the outcome of the negotiations at its meeting next Monday.
