Farmers in northern Jutland are seeking advice after errors were found in calculations setting how much nitrogen they may discharge from next year, DR reports.

Agillix, a farmers’ association in northern Jutland, has received calls from confused and frustrated farmers, said its vice-chairman, Torben Farum. The association is advising farmers as they try to understand the impact of the revised figures.

Aarhus University, which carried out the calculations, has apologised and said it expects to correct the error in about a week. The university acknowledged that many farmers had received incorrect information about their nitrogen limits.

Farum said the error emerged after many farmers had already spent time planning next year’s work in their fields. Some of that planning will have to be redone, he said.

Agillix is planning three meetings where farmers can discuss the rules and the calculations, Farum said.
