Responders in Siglufjörður are preparing for another storm expected from the north tonight after roofs were blown off three houses in severe weather, mbl.is reports.

The Fjallabyggð Fire Department has helped local responders weigh down the roofs. Conditions have eased slightly, giving crews time to prepare for the next storm, fire chief Jóhann K. Jóhannsson told mbl.is.

Monitoring the sea level is the top priority, Jóhann said. Responders also plan to use a window from shortly after 4 p.m. until evening to secure loose objects before the northerly winds arrive. The roofs that came loose have been weighed down, according to the incident command.

Jóhann described conditions in the town as heavy rain and strong winds, though the weather was somewhat steadier than around noon. He said the storm had been stronger than expected.
