Municipalities are preparing for winter, with tractors, snowploughs and road salt ready for deployment from Thursday, DR reports. In Roskilde, the final preparations included a delivery of about 300 tonnes of road salt.
Henrik Pedersen, a winter-duty worker at Roskilde Municipality’s equipment depot, said there was a risk of icy roads overnight and that crews were monitoring conditions. He said the municipality needed to be ready before winter weather arrived.
About 40 tonnes of salt are used on a single round covering the municipality, Pedersen said, with more deliveries expected over the coming months. Preparations begin as the summer holidays end, when staff get systems and duty rosters ready and the workshop converts tractors from grass maintenance to winter service.
Pedersen also urged drivers to consider fitting winter tyres and to watch temperatures, noting that road surfaces can be colder than the air. The municipalities’ winter services remain on standby until April 15.
