The prosecution wants Faroese defence lawyers for cases heard in the Faroe Islands, after a drug-related appeal was postponed until March because two Danish lawyers could not attend as planned, KVF reports.
Chief prosecutor Katrin Thorsvig Hansen called the delay “very unfortunate”. The case concerns 5F-ADB, a substance used to make drugs. She said Faroese defence lawyers could be just as good as Danish lawyers, and sometimes better.
The appeal court had been due to hear the case on Monday afternoon and Tuesday. One lawyer, travelling from Denmark, was delayed by the weather and did not arrive until late Monday afternoon. The other had arrived in the Faroe Islands on Friday but could not change his departure.
The two defendants had also travelled to the islands for the hearing. They are otherwise held in custody in Denmark and will return there. Both were sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Føroya Court. The appeal court will not hear their case until March next year.
