The Faroese prime minister and government ministers have spent 95 days abroad, with travel costs totalling 3.417 million kroner, according to figures reported by KVF.

The figures came in a response from Prime Minister Beini Johannesen to MP Steffan Klein Poulsen, who asked about the government’s travel expenses. The government took office on April 13, 184 days before the figures were reported.

The minister for foreign affairs and fisheries has spent the most time abroad, with 30 days of travel. Johannesen said the figures include all travel expenses incurred by the ministries, including those of civil servants.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries accounted for the largest share of the costs, at two million kroner. Just under 1.5 million kroner of that was for foreign affairs.

Johannesen said 2026 is an unusually busy year for travel, partly because Denmark and the Faroe Islands hold the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers. Many meetings are scheduled in October and November. The Faroe Islands, Greenland and Denmark also jointly hold the presidency of the Arctic Council from May 2025 to May 2027.
