South Iceland woman wins 42 million kroner in lottery
A woman in South Iceland won 42 million Icelandic krónur in the University of Iceland Lottery on Tuesday, mbl.is reported. She had told her mother that morning she felt she would win, but had no idea the prize would be so large.
The woman held both a tromp ticket and a regular ticket with the winning number, giving her six times the prize. The winnings are tax-free. Her mother gave her the lottery ticket when she was a child, and she has kept it ever since.
Two other ticket holders with the same winning number won seven million krónur each. Lottery officials could not reach one of them by phone and will send the news by text message.
Five owners of tromp tickets also won between one and two million krónur. The lottery has not been able to contact one of those winners because no phone number is registered.
In total, 3,623 ticket holders won nearly 210 million krónur in the draw. The Million-turnover prize pool was not won and will increase by 15 million krónur to 75 million in November.
