A Hlöllabátar sandwich shop in an Orkan service station near Smáralind has closed, mbl.is reports.

The shop, located at Hagasmári, was operated by Onion ehf. The company is also associated with TGI Fridays, which was closed and sealed by the tax authority with police assistance the previous day, mbl.is reported earlier.

Jóhannes Birgir Skúlason owns Onion ehf. He has also been involved in running TGI Fridays with Helgi Magnús Hermannsson. Tankurinn ehf., a company connected to TGI Fridays, was declared bankrupt. Its liquidation recently ended without any payment toward claims totalling ISK 277 million.

It is not known whether the Hagasmári closure is connected to the tax authority’s actions at TGI Fridays on Laugavegur.

The Hlöllabátar brand is used by more than one operating company. A separate company runs the sandwich shop at Ingólfstorg in central Reykjavík, and its operation is not connected to the Hagasmári location. Hlöllabátar ehf. runs shops at Bíldshöfði 5 and Bústaðavegur 20, according to the company’s website. The Bústaðavegur shop, also located in an Orkan service station, remains open.

Jóhannes Birgir is listed as a representative of Hlöllabátar ehf. in the tax authority’s company register, while businessman Óli Valur Steindórsson is listed as its beneficial owner. Óli Valur, who is resident in Portugal, has been involved in several businesses, including fishing, restaurants, property trading and construction. He has also been involved in operating Hlöllabátar and Barion in Mosfellsbær.
