Faroese politics, fuel prices, taxes

Faroe Islands residents should not expect a new package to ease high fuel costs, Helgi Abrahamsen, a Sambandsflokkurin member of parliament and chairman of the finance committee, told KVF.

Prices for oil, petrol and diesel have risen sharply. This summer, the government introduced a relief package that removed value-added tax from petrol and diesel, but prices are now considerably higher than when the measure was introduced.

Petrol currently costs 15.56 kroner per litre and diesel 16.38 kroner, according to KVF. Eirikur í Jákupsstovu, a Tjóðveldi member of parliament, criticised the coalition for taking no further action.
