Police urge travellers to prepare for northern blizzard

Police in the Westfjords and Northwest Iceland are urging people to check the weather forecast and asking travellers to bring forward their journeys or wait until conditions improve, mbl.is reports.

Iceland’s Met Office has issued orange weather warnings for the Westfjords, Strandir and Northwest Iceland from late tomorrow until Thursday morning. Heavy snowfall and difficult travel conditions are expected, particularly on mountain roads.

Yellow warnings are due to take effect tomorrow morning in South Iceland, the Faxaflói area, Breiðafjörður, Southeast Iceland and the central highlands.
