Nine in 10 people in the Faroe Islands’ net migration over the year to 1 September had no residency ties to the islands, Statistics Faroe Islands said, according to KVF.
The net migration increase was nearly 600 people. Of that increase, 60 per cent had no residency ties.
To qualify as having residency ties, a person must have lived in the Faroe Islands for half their life or for seven consecutive years out of 10 at some point in their life.
Net migration among people with residency ties was positive over the past year, reversing a pattern seen in several previous periods. The overall increase in net migration came from people without residency ties.
As of 1 September, 6.6 per cent of people living in the Faroe Islands had no residency ties.
