A cyberattack raised freezer temperatures at hundreds of French grocery stores overnight from Sunday to Monday, SVT reported.

Hackers are said to have raised temperatures in some freezers to as high as 50 degrees Celsius, according to BFM TV. The affected chains include Intermarché, Coopérative U and Leclerc.

“Attacking critical equipment used to keep food fresh for the French people is extremely serious, and something we have never seen before. It is unacceptable,” Coopérative U chief executive Dominique Schelcher wrote on X.

Those behind the attack have not been identified. The damage is estimated to amount to several million euros.
